Control.dev vs AARO

AARO by Pacera brings the statutory year-end for large groups. Control.dev brings the monthly group view, the plan and AI on the ledgers you keep. The two can run side by side.

Verdict

AARO fits a large or listed group that needs the statutory year-end in the consolidation tool, with IFRS 16, disclosure and country-by-country reporting, implemented with Pacera’s consultants.

Control.dev fits the monthly group view on the ledgers your entities keep, with eliminations, CTA, the three-statement plan and AI on the same numbers, beside AARO, set up by our team, live in hours for most companies, with no fee.

Why we compare consolidation suites on these topics

TopicAAROControl.dev
01 The monthly group view from the ledgers you keepA predefined group chart, data in through integrators The AARO Base Package ships a predefined chart of accounts, consolidation logic and reporting templates based on IFRS and EU BAS1, the AARO Integrator names ERPs such as SAP, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics2, and Otisco sells connectors into AARO from more than 70 systems3.Eliminations in their own column, every figure open to its entries Control.dev reads each ledger with read-only access by default, AI suggests the account mapping for your team to accept, Currency CTA and Elimination CTA stay apart from the eliminations, your AI client lists the intercompany pairs that do not match, and every group figure opens to its entries.
02 Implementation: how long, who does it, what it costsA five-step method with Pacera’s consultants Pacera implements AARO with a five-step method in which project managers, technical consultants and group accounting specialists handle the setup and the consolidation logic4, on a timeline set by the complexity of the group5.Set up by our team, most live in under two hours, no fee Our team sets up the integrations and the account mapping, most companies have live data in under two hours, and there is no setup fee and no consultants to pay, with consolidation and currencies in the plan.
03 Contract and cost of changePrices on request Pacera publishes no AARO prices on its site and offers a demo instead6.Public prices, no multi-year contract, a notice period from one month EUR 249, 499 and 999 a month excluding VAT are on the pricing page, billing is monthly, and fees can rise once a year with 30 days’ notice. The 30-day free trial runs on your own ledgers, with up to three integrations.
04 Statutory depth against the monthly viewIFRS and statutory consolidation with disclosure modules AARO describes automated eliminations, currency conversion and intercompany reconciliation for IFRS and statutory reporting7, with modules for IFRS 16 lease accounting, disclosure management and country-by-country reporting8.Full consolidation of connected entities, minority interests by manual entries Intercompany eliminations, currency translation and CTA are calculated for every connected entity, minority interests are handled with group-level manual entries today, and Control.dev has no disclosure, IFRS 16 or multi-GAAP module.
05 Planning and AI on the group numbersMercur for planning, Edda and Ora announced Pacera sells Mercur for planning as a product of its own next to AARO9, and announced its AI layer, Edda and Ora, in June 202610.Three statements planned on the group, Claude on the same numbers The P&L, balance sheet and cash flow are planned together in locked versions, and Claude, ChatGPT or Codex, connected over MCP, drafts values with a reason on each, reviews a month’s bookings and drafts the board pack. The client starts from the statements and the group structure, not a raw export of the general ledger, and traces what it finds to the entries.

Control.dev consolidates the ledgers a group already runs into one group view with eliminations.

Where AARO is the better choice

  • Large and listed groups that need disclosure management, IFRS 16 and country-by-country reporting in the consolidation tool8. Control.dev has no disclosure, IFRS 16 or country-by-country module.
  • Year-end audits that ask the consolidation vendor for an ISAE 3402 / SOC 1 Type 2 report11.
  • Groups centred on SAP or Microsoft Dynamics, or with a close run by a Nordic partner such as Accountor, Aspia or Greenstep212.

When teams look at Control.dev

From what finance teams have told us about the moment they started looking. We name no customers.

  • The consolidation tool works and nobody calls it broken, but its yearly cost no longer matches what the finance team gets from it, and the team wants AI on the same group numbers.
  • Local teams deliver into a group import template whose rows do not match their own report terms, so someone maps by hand every month and keeps a spreadsheet beside it.

Which fits your finance team

Choose AARO if you need the statutory year-end in the consolidation tool, with IFRS 16, disclosure and country-by-country reporting, and Pacera’s consultants or a partner to run it.

Choose Control.dev if your work is the monthly group view on the ledgers your entities keep, with the plan and AI on the same numbers, set up by our team in hours for most companies with no fee, at a published monthly price, while AARO can keep the year-end.

Working with Control.dev

  • Live in hours or days, not months Our team sets Control.dev up with you. Most companies have live data in under two hours from the first call, a larger group takes days, the hardest a few weeks, and there is no setup fee at any size. The comparison hub shows how long each vendor says its own rollout takes.
  • Prices on one page, nothing billed on the side EUR 249, 499 and 999 a month excluding VAT, on the pricing page, with no multi-year contract and a notice period from one month. Support, user changes and settings changes are in the price, and nothing is billed per ticket or per request.
  • Close support from the people who build the product Your questions go to the team that builds Control.dev, most are answered within minutes and almost all the same day, and we work through accounting and group-structure questions with you, not only software questions.
  • Your AI client on a structure built for group accounting Claude, ChatGPT or Codex works on Control.dev over an MCP built and tested for group accounting. The client starts from the statements and the group structure, not a raw export of the general ledger: it finds what needs attention and traces it to the entries, within the access your role allows.
  • Built with the finance teams that use it, at pace Our roadmap comes from our customers, demanding finance professionals, and a gap in a feature list is the best news we can get. A missing feature typically ships in days and a larger one in weeks. A ledger connector we would build anyway comes at no extra cost; today Control.dev connects Netvisor, Procountor, Easor (Talenom), Fortnox, Spiris (formerly Visma eEkonomi), Tripletex, e-conomic, Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Odoo, Xledger and NetSuite, plus Stripe.
  • A younger product, and who it is for Control.dev is built by Finata Oy in Helsinki since 2024, by a team from finance roles and finance systems. It fits a team that already works with AI tools, or wants to, and would rather not keep data engineers or system consultants for its reporting. If AI is not something your company wants to work with, we are probably the wrong partner, and where another tool covers more than Control.dev, the page above says so.

What switching looks like

  1. 1 Run both side by side for a period. Control.dev reads your ledgers with read-only access by default, so AARO and your ledgers stay as they are while you compare the numbers. The 30-day free trial covers up to three integrations.
  2. 2 Send us screenshots of the three or four reports your board already knows, and we rebuild them in Control.dev first, so the first month looks familiar.
  3. 3 You do not have to move everything at once, and AARO can keep the year-end. If you later move more than the monthly view, your contract and notice period decide the timing. Control.dev has no implementation fee and no multi-year contract, and its notice period starts from one month.

Questions

Can we run Control.dev beside AARO?

Yes. Control.dev reads each entity’s books with read-only access by default, so nothing changes in AARO or in the ledgers. It connects Netvisor, Procountor, Easor (Talenom), Fortnox, Spiris (formerly Visma eEkonomi), Tripletex, e-conomic, Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Odoo, Xledger and NetSuite, plus Stripe, and DATEV as an export through an AI client over MCP, and our team sets it up with you with no setup fee. AARO keeps the statutory year-end and disclosure, and Control.dev gives finance the monthly group view, the three-statement plan and AI on the same ledgers. Most of our customers started this way, beside the tool they had, and use spread from there, process by process. Singa consolidates three entities in different systems and currencies, without an ERP project.

What do setup and later changes cost?

With Control.dev, our team sets up the integrations and the mapping with no setup fee, and most companies have live data in under two hours. Later changes to a mapping, a layout or a dashboard are made by your team or its AI client, with no consultants to pay. Pacera implements AARO with project managers, technical consultants and group accounting specialists4. Its own buyer’s guide to choosing a consolidation system says the planning phase of a rollout typically takes three to six months, as general guidance rather than an AARO delivery time13. Control.dev publishes its monthly prices, excluding VAT: EUR 249 for one entity and one integration, EUR 499 for consolidation with three integrations and EUR 999 with five, where a Stripe connection counts as one integration, with no implementation fee, no multi-year contract and a notice period from one month.

Can we use our own AI assistant on the group?

With Control.dev, yes, today: Claude, ChatGPT and Codex work with the consolidated group over MCP in every plan, list the intercompany pairs that do not match and draft the board pack. The client starts from the statements and the group structure, not a raw export of the general ledger. The product docs show how to connect each client. Pacera announced its own AI layer, Edda and Ora, in June 202610, and its AI page says the capabilities are offered by plan, with nothing posted without a person’s approval14. The AARO Connector opens AARO data to BI tools, Excel and data warehouses15.

Does Control.dev cover disclosure management, IFRS 16 or minority interests?

Not in the way AARO does. Control.dev consolidates every connected entity in full, with intercompany eliminations, currency translation and CTA, and minority interests are handled with group-level manual entries today. It has no disclosure management, IFRS 16 or country-by-country module. If you need those in the consolidation tool, AARO has modules for all three8.

How established is Control.dev next to AARO?

Younger and smaller. AARO was founded in Stockholm in 198916, and its published references include Husqvarna Group and Clas Ohlson17. Control.dev is built by Finata Oy in Helsinki, founded in 2024, for the monthly group view on the ledgers a group already runs. Control.dev’s roadmap is built with the finance teams that use it: a smaller missing feature typically ships in days and a larger one in weeks, and the statutory depth grows step by step.

Where is the data stored?

Control.dev’s data is hosted on Google Cloud in Hamina, Finland, encrypted in transit and at rest. Finata Oy’s information security management system is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified. Control.dev’s own AI features process data in the EU; an AI client you connect over MCP processes what it reads under your agreement with its provider.

What support do we get?

Close support on every plan. Your questions go to the team that builds Control.dev, most are answered within minutes and almost all the same day, and we work through accounting and group-structure questions with you, not only software questions. Support, user changes and settings changes are in the price, and Enterprise adds a dedicated Slack channel and priority support.
